Biko Bikes is a student-led project, which contributes to a more sustainable Manchester by promoting cycling, offering affordable bicycle rental, and teaching bicycle maintenance to students.
Our workshop is located in the basement of the Students' Union on Oxford Road, and we are open Monday evenings from 5pm to 7pm as a drop-in for bike advice, maintenance, or for rentals.
If you're interested in bikes, mechanically minded or not, and wish to volunteer please come down to the workshop, visit our Instagram or contact us at bikobikes.su@manchester.ac.uk.
As a sustainability project, Biko Bikes wants to engage with students and promote cycling. We do this verbally at our sessions as well as through our rental scheme to get more students an opportunity to cycle our city. There is a clear gap in our project in social media engagement which can be so impactful and we want to change this.
Our Instagram page is relatively new as we moved from Facebook so is a blank canvas for new ideas in promoting cycling but also our brand. We have new branding coming soon so this position advertisement comes at a time where we can move our social media in many creative directions.
We want to utilize this next academic year and believe now is when we should be building the foundations of this.
Responsibilities:
Creating a design theme from our new branding (which includes a font!)
Creating posts about us, what we do/offer, where we are and when we open.
Creating posts about sustainability around cycling.
Coming up with new ideas to promote students to cycle in Manchester.
What we are looking for:
Don’t worry, no technical knowledge is needed on bikes and repair. We will also handle the messages and comments that may require day to day operations or technical insight. We would like somebody who has a keen attitude to learning & understanding bikes to be able to transfer this into informing students creatively via social media posts.
How to apply:
Email bikobikes.su@manchester.ac.uk with your details and we will be in touch. Some evidence of creativity would be appreciated but not necessary.
