No one should feel alone. We exist to create relationship and connection because everyone deserves to belong. We get referrals from the Local Authority and seek to link these referrals up with volunteers who will provide the family with a sense of belonging.
Safe Families receive referrals from the Local Authority of families and children who are in need of Early Help provision. We seek to match vulnerable families up with volunteers who will support them. This support will look different for each family but they support will seek to achieve goals that are set out before the official support begins.
An example of these goals will be: the mum is struggling to access local mother and tots groups due to lack of self confidence. The volunteer is required to link the mum up with a local mother and tots group. These goals are set out to ensure the family and volunteer are clear on what needs to be achieved by the end of the support.
The volunteer needs to be flexible and adaptable as every support looks different as it is tailor made for the family. They need to be good at listening and able to communicate effectively with Safe Families to ensure a good standard of Safeguarding is upheld.
The volunteer will gain knowledge in safeguarding through our training. They will have access to more training including additional needs training and working with young people. They will gain confidence in support families and taking the initiative to plan meetings and activities. They will gain skills in listening and communicating.
There are opportunities to volunteer all across Manchester.
