The BHZ CONNECTION project’s main aim is to contribute to the educational development of young people and adolescents from low-income families by teaching languages including Portuguese and foreign languages (English, French, Spanish, etc…) as educational tools.
Using activities such as Drama, Capoeira Angola, art, educational games, reading, music and physical education the students learn other languages, thereby facilitating cultural exchange with volunteers from different countries.
ACCA aims to provide young people the experience with a cultural exchange between England and Brazil
ACCA offers cultural experiences to young people and includes learning activates, group work, sociability and social protection and which focuses on the establishment of one living space and working in participatory approach, the development of the autonomy of children and adolescents, from particular demands and potential presented by each.
We believe that if we provide a motivating environment, dynamic, cheerful, with meetings, studies, planning and reviews happening systematically, it is possible to guarantee children and adolescents’ rights to leisure and culture, contributing to the educational, emotional, professional and psychological development.
This is a face-to-face volunteering opportunity in Brazil.
We have a fantastic interactive volunteering opportunity for those of you who would like to travel to Brazil on a year abroad.
Playing an important role in people's lives, education and cultural activities are at the heart of our project, BHZ Connection. Since we commenced our work in 2010, we have been providing learning opportunities to our students, including language classes, drama, dance, and music.
Sounds great! How do I get involved?
If this sounds just like you... we've got just the thing!
Why not spend some time in BHZ Connection's Education and Cultural Language Center project, teaching what comes most naturally to you – your mother tongue?
The project is based in Belo Horizonte, a major city located in the heartland of Brazil, from where you can easily access other parts of the country. Once in Belo Horizonte, you would be living at the project accommodation and, depending on the length of your stay, also with a local host family, all of whom are friends of BHZ Connection.
You can volunteer for as long as you like, but we would recommend a minimum of two months of teaching. We believe this time is necessary for you to develop your teaching skills and to build a connection with your students. While you’re there, you might even pick up some Portuguese!
Hopefully, you can join us and help us make a difference in people's lives.
Your Job as a volunteer would be:
Volunteers at BHZ Connection are more than just teachers. Whilst one of the essential ingredients of your time as a volunteer will be teaching languages and other subjects, volunteers are also expected to play a part in the maintenance and development of the project.
This could involve:
Daily cleaning and upkeep of the project’s premises
Assisting in the regular administrative tasks of the project (data collation, creating publicity
material etc)
Sharing ideas as to how the project can develop in the future
Working with children from other projects, local to BHZ Connection.
The children coming to the project range in age from around 6 up to 14 and ability varies within these age groups.
Volunteers are expected to work independently, supported by the project, to plan and deliver appropriate and engaging classes.
