Ethical volunteering organisation with opportunities in Sri Lanka and Nepal
Volunteer in Nepal! Join our Community Development team and help make an impact by working in the Himalayas, the highest mountain range in the world, are found in Nepal, which also has some of the most famous landscapes on the planet. With borders to China in the north, India in the west, east, and south, this lovely nation is home to close to 30 million people. Nepal is sadly the fifth poorest country in Asia with 20% of its population living in poverty.
Our programme for community development aims to help outlying mountain communities. Travelteer works in several villages throughout the mountainous area surrounding Pokhara to improve agriculture, infrastructure, and education.
Due to over 80% of the population living in rural mountain areas, education and learning resources are harder to come by. Therefore, only 60% percent of adults in Nepal are literate and even fewer 49% percent for women.
Volunteer roles
English development
A lot of teachers at the schools we work with have little to no English. To add to this, there is a real lack of facilities and equipment, especially in the rural mountain villages. There are also very few times where the students will have the opportunity to speak with a native English speaker. This is where our English Development programme can help change the paths of young school children.
IT support
Although some school we operate in have IT labs, unfortunately, the teachers have had no training on how to use computers or teach IT lessons. Join the team and help educate the teachers and students how to use computers – no matter how tech savvy you are, there is always ways you can help!
Sports development
The Sports development aims to introduce new sports to local schools in the community. Selected sports equipment will be provided to the schools. Fundraising provides these schools with equipment so that students can continue sport outside of lesson time, with your help!
School renovation
There is a seriously lack of facilities at the schools we operate at. Work alongside local technicians to help build facilities and improve the schools. The aim of renovation is to create a positive school environment for children to learn. This includes re-vamping classrooms and construction of kitchen facilities.
Agricultural project
We aim to build plastic houses with the support of SAHAS naturalist team. Volunteers can take part in the construction of plastic houses and engage in farming activities. All harvests produced are used within the local communities and the greenhouse create a sustainable method for future growth.
Keep in mind that the Travelteer staff are always available to help; we offer 24/7 support both before and during your placement. Preparing for your adventure is incredibly simple with the help of our online membership dashboard, and our UK staff is always available if you have any questions.
