The aim of this project is to ethically combat food poverty by growing healthy produce for the general public to pick and take home. Volunteers will be required to clean up our plots, plant and grow a variety of crops, help with general upkeep of the produce, and to promote the project where possible. It also aims to provide volunteers with the opportunity to learn about how to grow food sustainably on small plots, so no prior knowledge is necessary!
We are aiming to spread the word and get more people and groups from the wider community involved - both in caring for the plot (especially during uni holidays) and in benefiting from the delicious fruit and veg we can grow!
This year we are hoping to work on transforming our Mosely Road plot into a food forest, and begin to set up a series of talks to discuss food issues more extensively.
Incredible Edible UoM aims to grow food and create beautiful green spaces that provide benefit to students, permanent residents, and wildlife. We explore exciting new sustainable approaches to food production based on soil health, biodiversity and an understanding of natural processes.
As one of our volunteers, you will be invited to help us maintain and improve our plots in Platt Fields. Tasks might involve weeding, planting, propagating new plants and watering, in addition to building bug houses, planters, and helping us decorate our spaces! We try our best to make each session exciting for our volunteers and are open to taking our sessions in any direction that best suits those that turn up! We invite all of our volunteers to play an active role in planning for the future - helping us decide what we want to grow and how we want to grow it.
Don’t worry if you don’t have any previous gardening experience, many of us are beginners and we’re all still learning!
We run sessions every Saturday from 12pm - 2pm.
