Audio is a project that aims to widen access to higher education for children from underrepresented backgrounds in Manchester by providing music theory workshops to primary school children (years 3 – 4). With the aim of inspiring children to pursue a passion for music, as well as introducing the idea of further education to them, we are looking for volunteers to participate in the workshops that will take place at different school locations, assisting the children with their learning.
Music theory knowledge is not essential as the sessions will be at a very basic level. With the aim of the sessions being a means of inspiration for the children, we are looking for people who have a passion for the arts and want to share this with younger people! As a workshop volunteer you will assist a small group of 5 or 6 children in the interactive activities that are set for the class including listening to music, composing music, and creating artwork. If you have a creative hobby, we would love to showcase the importance of the arts to the children – maybe you play an instrument, sing, DJ, create artwork, act, write music, create photography, create films, write poems, write stories or maybe you just have a passion for listening to music!
The Audio project aims to conduct six sessions in a single school over a period of weeks, with a look at conducting the workshops in more schools throughout the year. As a volunteer you would be required for approximately two hours fortnightly, depending on the school time availability. Alongside the actual workshops, as a volunteer you will be required to complete a DBS check as well as other training and planning for the sessions due to take place. If you have concerns about the volunteer commitment times/hours we would still love to hear from you as we can try our best to work around volunteer time availability.
Taking part in this project is a great opportunity for you make new friends who share similar interests to you! It will also give you opportunity to gain and solidify skills that can go on your CV as well as being part of an extremely rewarding experience of contributing to the ever so important creative development and inspiration for young children.
