Just Like Us is the LGBT+ young people's charity, and we work to make life awesome for LGBT+ young people in UK schools. Our network of 200 LGBT+ young adult ambassadors are trained to share their experiences in local schools and colleges, giving hope to LGBT+ kids and inspiring all kids to be LGBT+ allies.
Just Like Us believes that all young LGBT+ people deserve to thrive. If you’re LGBT+ and age 18-25, you could volunteer as an ambassador!
As a Just Like Us ambassador your role will be incredibly varied. There are a number of exciting projects, tasks and opportunities you can get involved in, for example:
• Delivering talks to schools and colleges (in pairs)
• Creating online media such as blog posts, articles or videos
• Meeting other LGBT+ people and taking part in skills workshops
• Taking part in our mentoring scheme with LGBT+ professionals
Our ambassadors form a network of young and diverse LGBT+ individuals who talk about their experiences to positively impact the lives of LGBT+ young people. Through telling our own stories we can all play a part in ensuring the younger generation of young LGBT+ people grow up with the support and representation they need.
Through this work, you will gain employability skills such as public speaking, project management, digital media creation and team working.
We have ambassadors from various faith and ethnic backgrounds, as well as ambassadors with diverse LGBT+ identities, disabilities and levels of income. You do not need to be out to everybody in order to make a difference with us.
During the signup process, there will be an opportunity to ask for any access needs that you may have, so that we can support all volunteers from the very beginning.
If you are worried about a barrier to volunteering, get in touch with Georgia (georgia.acton@justlikeus.org). More information about volunteering at www.justlikeus.org/volunteer.
