At IntoUniversity we offer innovative programmes that support young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to attain either a university place or another chosen aspiration.
IntoUniversity is an educational charity with a strong track record of working with schools, corporate partners and universities to inspire young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential.
Young people from the UK's most disadvantaged postcodes are half as likely to get five 9-4 grades at GCSE, and nearly four times less likely to go to university. This makes it harder for these young people to succeed in a competitive job market. The long-term effects can be felt across society, as communities with low education and employment prospects become increasingly marginalised. By raising aspirations, we aim to tackle this issue, giving our students a chance at a brighter future.
We are currently recruiting University Student Mentors to help support our students (aged between 10 and 17) who attend our after school Academic Support sessions. You will lead one-to-one sessions, supporting your mentee with their academic skills, social and emotional development, and future thinking.
We expect volunteers to commit to delivering 10 mentoring sessions, each session lasts for 1 hour and will take place roughly every 2 weeks.
No specific experience or skills are required to apply for this role. We welcome applications from all students from all degree disciplines at any level of study. We are committed to providing all our volunteers with comprehensive face-to-face training prior starting the role.
Volunteering with IntoUniversity offers a supportive environment to gain experience of working with children and young people. You will develop your team working, leadership and communication skills in an educational setting, whilst giving something back to the local community. We like to support our all our volunteers by giving comprehensive face-to-face training for each of the roles.
