We also run monthly Together In Song Gospel Choir which meets monthly on Saturdays
We also have our pioneering Together @ Home Befriending Service, were volunteers are matched with a carer and person living with Dementia where a weekly day and time is agreed with volunteers, offering companionship, respite for cares and taking part in activities including: art and crafts, walks and gentle exercise, play various memory games and make friends!
We also have our monthly Dementia Cafes, where carers meet monthly to bond with each other and offer support and advice. Many of these carers brig a person living with dementia with them. We need volunteers to support at these cafes to try and give the carers some respite.
We need volunteer support to enable Together Dementia Support to provide a much needed service for people living with Dementia and the carers.
We run a number of friendly and supportive groups (across Manchester and Old Trafford) for people living with dementia, where they can enjoy a range of different activities, with or without their family carers if they so wish, that will help them to maintain skills, stay healthy and positive, and make friends.
Volunteers will assist the Group Leader with:
> Setting up the venue
> Assisting with activities either in groups or one-to-one, helping people to enjoy the sessions, this can be anything from baking to exercise to music, arts and craft work to table games.
> Encouraging members to engage in activities and socialise and make friends
> Preparing refreshments
Occasionally the group will take a trip out to local parks, museums or other places of interest.
Each week is different as the group leader tries to keep the themes of the sessions fresh and different.
