Manchester Cares is a charity that tackles isolation and loneliness by bringing together older and younger people across the city. We do this through group activities, called Social Clubs, and one to one befriending through our programme, Love Your Neighbour.
Join our community network of younger and older neighbours, sharing time, new experiences and friendship. We tackle isolation and loneliness in Manchester through fun, free group activities, and one to one in-person/telephone friendships.
We're looking for volunteers to share their time through any of the ways below:
Participate in Social Clubs - group activities for older and younger neighbours to come together. Clubs take place all across Manchester. It's really flexible, you can sign up to Social Clubs as/when suits you. We do a bit of everything from music workshops, coffee tasting, theatre/museum trips, documentary club, creative writing, quizzes, pottery classes and much more...
Your role at a Social Club is to come along and share time and friendship with your older neighbours.
We are especially looking for volunteers to join our monthly storytelling club in Fallowfield!
Sign up to Love Your Neighbour - our one-to-one friendship project, where we connect young people to older neighbours in their local area to share time, and friendship. This is more of a commitment, around 1 hour per week, for a minimum of 6 months. One-to-one friendships can be telephone only.
We match people based on personality, location, and shared interests. Friendships are flexible, you could spend time with your older neighbour at their house or go out together. We'll pay for a DBS check for you and provide some extra training with our Love Your Neighbour team.
Fundraise for us - host a fundraiser, such as a bake sale, pub quiz, or a clothes sale; or sign up to a challenge like running a 10k, half marathon or a bungee jump! We're open to your ideas.
All of our activities take place across Manchester during the daytime/evening, in the week and sometimes at weekends. All activities are free but we do not have budget for individual travel. We plan social clubs in accessible venues that are easily reachable by public transport.
