Passionate about nature, dedicated to saving it. Since we started on our mission in Manchester in 1889, the threats to nature have continued to grow, but we've grown to meet them too. We’re now the largest nature conservation charity in the country, consistently delivering successful conservation, forging powerful new partnerships with other organisations and inspiring others to stand up and give nature the home it deserves.
Join our team at Chorlton Water Park helping children and families have a fantastic and educational visit. You can help to grow the community's understanding and appreciation for the amazing wildlife in the park. By greeting visitors and talking them through using the contents of the loan backpacks eg. ID sheets, binoculars etc. you can really breathe life into this beautiful landscape and encourage mindful enjoyment of the site. We want to engage as many people as possible about the work of the RSPB, how amazing nature is and how we need to work together to save it.
As a Wildlife Backpacks volunteer, you will be:
Providing a friendly welcome to visitors and members of the public.
Inspiring members of the public to take notice of the natural features and wildlife at the park.
Explaining use of the simple equipment and wildlife ID guides to children and families.
Acting as an animateur and bringing nature to life for children.
Monitoring visitor numbers and capturing feedback.
Helping to set up the stalls and keeping the equipment clean and tidy.
For this role most important skill required will be your people skills. We aren't looking for wildlife expertise of knowledge of the RSPB – but a love of wildlife will certainly help! We are looking for someone who enjoys meeting new people and is a confident communicator.
This is a rewarding role which offers the opportunity to make new friends and spend time outdoors in a beautiful place. You will get to meet loads of new people in this role, enjoying conversation and helping people have a great interaction with the park. There is always the opportunity to learn new things and gain skills through volunteering and you'll naturally learn all about the wildlife at the park and the work of the RSPB. This could be a great introduction to a career in environmental education/ engagement, or just an opportunity to get outside, socialise and share your love of wildlife! We would value a commitment to one Sunday a month.
