Mental Health Support Text line
At Shout 85258, our trained Shout Volunteers are those invaluable people who chat to those in distress at any time of the day from the comfort of their own home thanks to the remote nature of the opportunity. Using a conversation model and skills in assessing, managing and navigating risk and safeguarding concerns, they provide a space for people to be heard and understood. This can help people get from a hot moment to a cool calm.
This is a challenging kind of work so being a Shout Volunteer isn’t for everyone. You need to:
Be over 18.
Be resilient and mentally robust to help people in distress.
Commit to 25 hours of online training and then fulfil 200 total hours of volunteering.
Have empathy and be able to be objective.
Put your own personal views to one side to help the texter.
Have a secure web connection, laptop/computer and access to a quiet place.
Only volunteer from the UK or New Zealand and have a phone number for one of these countries.
Provide 2 referees and consent to undergo a background check.

‘Meet’ new people - our volunteers are a sociable bunch who offer each other plenty of support on the platform.
Volunteer the way you want – from home, in the office or with a group of friends or family.
Work with Coaches and Clinical Supervisors who will support you on and off our platform where you'll take your shifts.
