A charity whose aim is to support senior members of the Didsbury community through a volunteer programme and a programme of weekly activities.
Didsbury Good Neighbours is seeking volunteers to assist with the delivery of a digital inclusion project supporting older South Manchester residents to engage more confidently with digital devices. Volunteers will support the Digital Drop-in sessions offering one-to-one support to residents with whatever digital support they may need in a friendly community setting - a perfect opportunity for those looking to pursue a career in consultation and/or teaching that allows volunteers to develop their skills in a low pressure, relaxed environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity to develop one to one interpersonal skills in a rewarding role that provides a lifeline to the older generation. By applying your knowledge of digital devices (smartphones, tablets, laptops), volunteers will assist older residents with basic operation, understanding apps and tackle troubleshooting issues such as password resets (and much more - great for those who like problem solving!).
A level of familiarity across digital devices is recommended however nothing beyond that of everyday use that comes as second nature to students, as the majority of our residents are beginners that require patience and understanding over digital expertise (the digital inclusion officer will be on hand to assist with any technical issues beyond the skills of the volunteer).
