The English Access Project

Sub theme: Asylum Seekers and Refugees, Education
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: The English Access Project runs free English classes for adults in Salford. We meet every Saturday morning at Eccles Library and have been running since June 2026, with around 12 regular learners from Brazil, Sri Lanka, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Hong Kong and Mauritius. Sessions cover everyday English, speaking confidence, reading and writing, and practical help with things like CVs, forms and job interviews. We're a constituted community group run by volunteers, a full member of Salford CVS, and we're working towards charity registration. Our Chair is Head of Modern Foreign Languages at a Manchester secondary school.

The teaching side is sorted. What we haven't got is any presence online. We own our domain (englishaccessproject.com) but have no website or social media yet, so people only find us through the library and word of mouth.

We're after one or two students to help us get set up online:
- build a simple website on our domain (Google Sites is fine)
- set up Facebook and Instagram pages, with a handful of ready-to-go posts
- write a short how-to guide so we can keep it all running ourselves

It would suit someone studying marketing, media, digital or web design who wants a real project for their CV or portfolio. You'll have a free hand on design, working with our Chair, who is Head of Modern Foreign Languages at a Manchester secondary school.

Most of it can be done remotely, roughly 3-4 hours a week over 6-8 weeks, at times that suit you. You're welcome to come along to a Saturday morning class to see what we do and take photos. Eccles Library is a short walk from Eccles tram stop (Metrolink, Eccles line) and on bus routes from Manchester city centre.
