Who can apply?

Anyone with a passion to make a difference and a willingness to give their time can apply to become a volunteer. We welcome individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and walks of life. Whether you have specific skills to offer or simply a desire to help, there are opportunities available for everyone.
Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, with no upper age limit, as long as they are able to perform the responsibilities of the role at MFT.

Where can I volunteer?

We have a variety of volunteer roles available across our hospital sites; however, please note that your preferred site may depend on availability and service needs. Our hospitals include:

Oxford Road Campus (ORC) – Manchester Royal Infirmary, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and University Dental Hospital of Manchester

Wythenshawe Hospital, Withington Community Hospital, Trafford General Hospital, and Altrincham Hospital (WTWA)

North Manchester General Hospital

Local Care Organisation (LCO), and Trafford Local Care Organisation (TLCO)
Description of role: Manchester Integrative Medical Practice (MIMP) is a local, innovative GP practice creating opportunities for students to get involved, helping residents take an active part in their care and improving NHS care through research. They’re now inviting students to volunteer at their Beat the Winter Blues Family Fun Day.

When and where
Saturday 10 October, 8:30am-1:30pm - Moss Side Health Centre, M14 4GP

Who we’re looking for: Students in medical, health or related fields. No previous volunteering experience or additional language skills are needed - everyone is welcome to apply. If you do speak Arabic, Urdu or Somali, those languages would be particularly helpful. Skills in henna, face painting or crafts would also be welcome.

How you can help:
Set up before the event and tidy up afterwards
Welcome and direct patients
Help with garden games, children’s crafts and colouring (supplies provided)
Offer henna or face painting, if you have those skills
Promote opportunities to take part in NHS research
Support patients to access help for benefits, housing and employment

What you’ll gain:
You’ll meet local residents and health professionals, work alongside the Neighbourhood Health Champions to learn how benefits, housing and employment affect health, and find out how NIHR research can improve NHS care.

Free lunch and a certificate of participation will be provided.

If you’d like to volunteer, please let us know about any language or artistic skills you’d like to use. Please also let us know if you have any dietary requirements (free lunch provided).
