Description of role: The Education programme works in partnership with schools across Sa Pa and Yen Bai province, supporting young people in rural communities through English language learning and physical education. Many students have a basic understanding of English but limited opportunities to practise speaking and listening with fluent English speakers. Volunteers help address this by supporting local teachers, delivering engaging activities and encouraging students to develop their confidence, communication skills and teamwork.
The programme also gives volunteers hands-on experience of education in a rural Vietnamese setting, while contributing to improvements in school facilities.
Daily tasks may include:
Supporting English lessons: Assisting local teachers with classroom activities, helping students practise speaking, listening, reading and writing in English.
Planning interactive activities: Leading conversation practice, vocabulary games and group exercises to make learning engaging and accessible.
Delivering sports and PE sessions: Helping teachers organise physical education lessons, leading games and encouraging students of different abilities to participate.
Running after-school clubs: Supporting English clubs and sports sessions, giving students additional opportunities to practise their skills in a fun, informal environment.
Improving school facilities: Assisting with classroom renovations and improvements to school playing fields, helping create safer and more welcoming learning environments.
Activities will vary depending on the school timetable, students' needs and the stage of the project. Volunteers will work alongside local teachers and staff, adapting their support to the needs of each school.
