Description of role: Volunteering with Homeless Outreach:
Drinks distribution walks: volunteers go out into Manchester on designated routes (walking/taking the bus from the SU into the city centre or down Wilmslow Road) with tea, hot chocolate, coffee, water and biscuits, which we offer to homeless people we meet along the way. These are led by senior volunteers who have been out multiple times and know the route and the preparation needed. We vary the days we go out, accommodating students with different timetables; expect a walk once a week!
Care package packing sessions: volunteers convene in the Student Union to assemble packages designed to benefit unhoused people and including resources that lessen the impact of extreme weather conditions.
Volunteering at a local food kitchen: Lifeshare is a Manchester-based charity that runs breakfast mornings Friday to Sunday from 6:30-9:30am. While we will aim to attend the Saturday sessions, you can attend any of the days if one works better for you!
Fundraising: at different points in the year, we will run stalls hosting games and bake sales with the aim of raising money for local homelessness charities.
