Description of role: Do you enjoy meeting new people, having great conversations and helping others feel more confident? Come along to our Global English Café and help create a friendly space where people can practice conversational English, connect with others, and enjoy a relaxed conversation.
The Global English Café is aimed at non-native English speakers who are looking to practise their conversational English in a friendly and relaxed environment. Sessions take place every Wednesday from 5:00pm to 6:00pm in the Nest, located in the Students’ Union Building.
As a volunteer, your role will be to chat with attendees through informal and supportive conversations, encouraging them to communicate in English and build their confidence in a welcoming environment.
No teaching experience is needed! This is not a teaching role and there’s no lesson planning or preparation involved. We’ll give you everything you need to get started, including guidance on what to expect and simple tips for supporting participants during the sessions.
Please note you do NOT need to be a native English speaker to volunteer with us! You simply need to be confident speaking in English, and able to create a warm and welcoming environment where attendees feel encouraged to practice.
If you are a confident English speaker who enjoys meeting people, want to gain experience in public speaking and supporting others in developing their confidence in English, we would be delighted to hear from you.
