Organisation Details

Ladybarn Community Hub 1

Sub theme: Health and Wellbeing, Older people
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: Ladybarn Community Hub is a community centre in the heart of Fallowfield. We offer activities, events and community spaces for all, from our older people's lunch club and LGBT+ coffee morning to activities like tai chi and Wellbeing Wednesday arts and crafts. We also have a nature-forward garden with swift boxes, wildflower meadow and community chickens!
Description of role: Ladybarn Community Hub runs a weekly popular Over 50’s lunch club, where a 2-course cooked lunch is followed by bingo and games. We are looking for volunteers to help with this activity and support it on a weekly basis.

The lunch club runs from 1 – 2.30 on Thursdays. Volunteers are needed from 11 – 3.00 to: help set up the dining area, chat to attendees and make them feel welcome, serve tea, coffee, and lunch, help out with Bingo, and clear up afterwards. Volunteers are welcome to attend for the whole session (11 - 3) or part of the session. Volunteers are offered a free cooked lunch for helping with this activity (lunch is not halal but there is always a vegetarian option).

Our volunteers are an important part of this activity, helping to create a sense of community and belonging through the social interaction they have with attendees which is much appreciated. This is a great opportunity to build social skills and practice your English (if you’re new to the UK), in a friendly, welcoming environment.

Ladybarn Community Hub is a five-minute walk from the Friendship pub, with easy access from the 143, 142 and 50 bus routes.
