Organisation Description: With an emphasis on relieving poverty, promoting health & wellbeing and advancing skills & learning, Northmoor Community Association provides inter-generational and multi-cultural activities, as well as accessible and welcoming community facilities for all.
Incorporating its own IT suite, café / kitchen, classrooms and multi-purpose rooms, Northmoor Community Association hosts a wide program of activities and opportunities for people to learn new skills and further themselves in a way that reflects their own aspirations and those of the community.
From learning how to cook, to accessing a wide range of free online computer courses, from planting seeds to getting fit, there is something for anyone and everyone to become involved in.

Description of role: Northmoor Homework Club is a free project for children aged 8-16 for children to do their homework and receive 1:1 support.
The homework club is an informal, relaxed environment but we still maintain the strictest of Safeguarding procedures and expect the children to adhere to the agreed boundaries.
Main Tasks
• Helping with homework
• Supporting and ensuring safety in arts and crafts and other extra-curricular projects
• Ensuring children behave according to the behaviour rules
• Being fully aware and alert to any Safeguarding incidents that may arise
Skills, Experience and Qualities needed
• Over 18
• Good listening, communication and English Language skills
• Some knowledge of various school subjects
• Kind, patient and able to adapt to the varying needs of the children
• Able to enforce the behaviour rules with confidence
• Able to work well as part of a diverse team with a commitment to Equal Opportunities, treating all individuals equally and with respect
• A commitment to Confidentiality, Safeguarding and GDPR standards (We will provide free training on this)
Because the project involves volunteering in a regulated activity with children we require all volunteers to have a DBS check. We will sort this with you for free after your first session.
We recommend you start with volunteering for one 3-hour session a week;
Monday 3:30-6:30pm
Tuesday 3:30-6:30pm
Thursday 3:30-6:30pm
The project is only on during school term time (as stated by Manchester City Council).
Induction and Training provided
You will receive a full volunteer induction and introduction into the project. You would not be expected to fulfil all aspects of the role immediately but to learn over time. Within your first month, you will need to complete free training on safeguarding and GDPR, which we will provide. You can work on the training during your volunteering session.
The Benefits
• You will be paid out-of-pocket expenses such as bus fare
• We will provide a professional reference for you after completing 30 hours
• You can gain valuable experience and training qualifications which will help improve your job prospects especially if you want to work with children
Interested? You can arrange to do a ‘taster’ session, to see if the role is suitable before you commit to being a volunteer.
