About the Role:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and engaging Education Support Volunteer to help deliver our weekly Garden Explorers programme for children.
This hands-on session encourages young people to discover the natural world through gardening, creative activities, wildlife exploration and outdoor learning. Volunteers will play an important role in creating a fun, safe and welcoming environment where children can build confidence, curiosity and a lifelong appreciation for nature.
This opportunity is ideal for students interested in primary education, early years, environmental education, psychology, childhood studies, social work, ecology or community engagement.
What You'll Do:
- Support the smooth running of the weekly Garden Explorers session.
- Welcome children and their families, helping to create an inclusive and positive atmosphere.
- Assist the session facilitator with gardening, nature-based and creative learning activities.
- Encourage children's curiosity, participation and confidence through positive engagement.
- Help prepare learning materials and resources before each session.
- Assist with setting up and packing away equipment and activities.
- Help ensure the learning environment is safe, organised and enjoyable for everyone.
- Contribute ideas for future activities and support the development of new educational resources and seasonal programmes.

- Passionate about working with children and supporting outdoor learning.
- Interested in environmental education, gardening or creative learning.
- A confident communicator who enjoys working as part of a team.
- Reliable and able to commit to a regular weekly session.
- Committed to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment for children and families.
Previous experience working with children is welcome but not essential. We value enthusiasm, creativity and a willingness to learn.
By volunteering with Hulme Community Garden Centre, you will:
- Gain practical experience supporting children's education in an outdoor setting.
- Develop skills in environmental and nature-based learning.
- Build confidence in communication, teamwork and activity facilitation.
- Gain valuable experience for careers in teaching, early years, environmental education, psychology, youth work and community development.
- Work alongside experienced staff delivering engaging educational programmes.

Time: 10:30 am – 11:30 am

We encourage volunteers who can commit regularly, helping children build confidence through familiar faces and consistent support.
Safeguarding:
As this role involves supporting activities with children, volunteers will receive an induction covering safeguarding procedures and are expected to follow Hulme Community Garden Centre's safeguarding policies at all times.
