Sub theme: Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Heritage
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Description of role: Are you in Manchester over the summer and looking for a chance to volunteer? Come join us at our Heaton Park Volunteer Day to help them maintain their gorgeous gardens! This is a great chance to take advantage of the lovely sunny weather, get outside, make some new friends and contribute to one of the most important green spaces in Manchester.
What will you be doing? 🌻
We will be doing various garden-based activities, which may include:
• Clearing overgrowth in key public and community areas
• Key gardening tasks such as edging, weeding, bulb planting
• Tasks depend on the weather and may change on the day
• We will be moving to different areas of the park so there will be some walking, as well as the physical nature of the activity.
• We encourage you to go at your own pace and take breaks!
When and where? 🌻
The Volunteer Day will be from 1pm-3:30pm on Friday 31 July. We will meet on campus and head to Heaton Park together. We will meet at 12:15pm on Booth Street East outside of Crawford House. We will be getting in the taxi promptly at 12:30pm so please let me know if you are running late. **Please let me know if you would like to make your own way to Heaton Park**
What do I need to bring? 🌻
Please bring water to make sure you stay hydrated. We also recommend bringing some snacks. Snacks and hot drinks are also available to purchase at the Stables and Boathouse Cafés.
We suggest wearing old clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy. There may be nettles and thorny plants, as well as insects, so you might want to cover up arms and legs, but please be aware of the weather forecast with this. We recommend sturdy footwear such as walking boots/wellingtons, and avoiding wearing shoes that you do not want to get dirty.
