Organisation Description: About Us: ESCA-UK (Manchester Branch)
ESCA-UK is a professionally governed registered charity (No. 1208905) and company limited by guarantee (No. 13207623) with a national UK presence. While we operate across London, Birmingham, and Liverpool, this overview focuses specifically on the operations, growth, and strategic partnerships of the ESCA-UK Manchester branch.
As active members of Macc, Salford CVS, and NCVO, our core mission is to promote social inclusion for the public benefit. We support socially excluded individuals—particularly the East Sudanese, the wider Sudanese diaspora, and communities from the broader Horn of Africa. We achieve this objective by acting as a vital cultural bridge, facilitating connections between these communities and the local population through various initiatives and events that celebrate cultural diversity.
Our main goal is to help these groups successfully join and contribute to the social and economic life of Greater Manchester through organisational support and community-driven projects. We believe in being rooted in heritage and open to all; every single one of our activities is explicitly open to the wider local community to foster genuine social cohesion. We assist our community, with a special focus on youth and young families, in the following ways:
Increasing Engagement: Coordinating opportunities for our community to engage with statutory service providers (such as the NHS and local councils), enabling these providers to adapt their services to overcome cultural and language barriers.
Preserving Heritage: Facilitating educational programmes to bridge generational gaps and celebrate our rich cultural history.
Promoting Inclusion: Delivering inclusive educational, training, and recreational events for the broader Manchester community.
Our impact: Our flagship project, "Youth Active Heritage & Football" (supported by Sport England), serves children ages 5–16 by utilising sports and cultural education as a powerful bridge to inclusion. Through this project and our other initiatives, we ensure that the diverse fabric of our community, including children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities, can navigate their new lives in the UK with dignity, confidence, and pride.

The Tasks: You will be assisting our Lead Coaches in delivering our structured 'Staggered Start' sessions. Tasks include helping set up pitch equipment (cones, goals, and bibs), guiding small-sided games, encouraging participants, and ensuring strict health and safety protocols are followed on the 3G pitch.
Skills Needed: You do not need to be a professional coach! We are searching for individuals who are reliable, patient, energetic, and passionate about grassroots sports, youth mentorship, and community cohesion. Basic knowledge of football is helpful, but a positive attitude is essential.
What You Will Get Out of It: This is a fantastic opportunity for personal and professional development. Through the Sport England grant, ESCA-UK will fully fund your Enhanced DBS Check (Child Workforce).

Emergency first aid training. Furthermore, this role offers excellent hands-on experience for students looking to build their CVs in sports coaching, education, or community management. We also offer pathways and mentoring for dedicated volunteers to eventually complete their FA 'Introduction to Coaching Football' qualification.
Travel & Location: Sessions take place on Sundays for a 3-hour block (approx. 11:00 AM-3:00 PM) in the Central/South Manchester area. The facility is highly accessible via major bus routes from the University of Manchester campus.
