Sub theme: Children, Education
Description of role: ποΈ Help Bring the Roman Empire to Life at Medlock Primary School! ποΈ
Medlock Primary School is looking for University of Manchester students to support an engaging session linked to the Roman Empire for Year 2 and Year 3 pupils.
We are seeking enthusiastic student volunteers to deliver a short, interactive talk introducing pupils to key aspects of Roman life, culture, and legacy. This is a great opportunity to spark curiosity about history and help younger pupils connect what they are learning in the classroom to the wider world.
There is also a fantastic opportunity to link your session to subjects such as archaeology or Latin, helping pupils see how we learn about the past and how it still influences us today.
You might choose to explore:
πΊ Daily life in the Roman Empire
βοΈ Roman soldiers, battles, and expansion
ποΈ Roman towns, buildings, and engineering
π The Latin language and its influence today
πͺ¨ Archaeology and how we uncover Roman history
β¨ Or any other area of Roman history youβre passionate about
No prior teaching experience is required - just enthusiasm and a willingness to engage with young learners.
Why get involved?
This is a fantastic opportunity to:
β’ Develop public speaking and communication skills
β’ Gain experience working with and engaging young people
β’ Support curriculum learning and inspire interest in history
You can present individually or as part of a small group of 2β3 students. If applying as a group, please indicate this in your application.
Your total volunteering commitment is expected to be 5 hours, including both preparation and delivery time.
The sessions will take place across the weeks commencing 11 and 18 May. Exact dates and times will be confirmed based on teacher availability. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation email with further details.
