Organisation Details
University of Manchester Volunteering & Awards Team
Sub theme: Children, Education, Youth Work and Young People
Description of role: 🗺️ Help Bring the World to Life for Reception at Medlock Primary School! 🗺️
Medlock Primary School is looking for University of Manchester students to support a lovely, interactive session with Reception pupils (age 4–5), helping them learn about a country and compare it to their own.
We are seeking friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to deliver a short, engaging session introducing young children to a country of your choice. This is a wonderful opportunity to spark early curiosity about the world in a fun, visual, and accessible way.
You might choose to explore:
🌤️ What the weather is like
🏞️ Landscapes (beaches, mountains, cities)
🍽️ Food and popular dishes
🏠 Homes, schools, or daily life
📸 Photos from your home country or a place you know well
✨ Simple, fun facts suitable for young children
No prior teaching experience is required - just a friendly approach and willingness to engage with young learners.
Why get involved?
This is a fantastic opportunity to:
• Build confidence in communication and presentation
• Gain experience working with younger children
• Help inspire curiosity about the wider world from an early age
You can present individually or as part of a small group of 2-3 students. If applying as a group, please indicate this in your application.
Your total volunteering commitment is expected to be 5 hours, including both preparation and delivery time.
Sessions will run weekly on Wednesdays at 2:45pm from 22 April until 20 May. Exact dates will be confirmed with you after application. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation email with further details.
If you have any questions, please contact beth.carson@manchester.ac.uk.
