Description of role: 🌍 Help Bring the Topic of Migration to Life at Medlock Primary School! 🌍

Medlock Primary School is looking for University of Manchester students to support an engaging session on migration for a Year 5 class.

We are seeking enthusiastic student volunteers to deliver a short, interactive talk introducing pupils to the concept of migration, including some of the key reasons why people move around the world. This is a great opportunity to spark curiosity about global issues and help pupils connect their learning to real-world experiences.

You might choose to explore:
🧳 What migration is and why people move
🌱 Push and pull factors (e.g. safety, jobs, education, environment)
🌍 Migration stories from around the world
🏠 Personal, family, or community connections to migration
✨ Or any other approach you’re passionate about

We welcome students from all backgrounds - whether you’re studying migration as part of your degree, or have personal or family experiences connected to it. Both perspectives can bring something really valuable to the classroom.

No prior teaching experience is required - just enthusiasm and a willingness to engage with young learners.

Why get involved?
This is a fantastic opportunity to:
β€’ Develop public speaking and communication skills
β€’ Gain experience working with and engaging young people
β€’ Support learning and inspire interest in global topics

You can present individually or as part of a small group of 2-3 students. If applying as a group, please indicate this in your application.

Your total volunteering commitment is expected to be 5 hours, including both preparation and delivery time.

The sessions will take place across the weeks commencing 20 and 27 April. Exact dates and times will be confirmed based on teacher availability. Successful applicants will receive a confirmation email with further details.
