Volunteer Day: Help us finish the sandpit for kids in Whitworth Park! - Tuesday 31 March
Organisation Details
University of Manchester Volunteering & Awards Team
Sub theme: Children
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Description of role: Join us at Whitworth Park to help to fill the children's sand play area with new sand!
Earlier in March, a group of 10 students helped the Friends of Whitworth Park volunteering group to empty out, fix and refill the sandpit in the centre of the park. We now need your help to finish the job.
We will be volunteering from 12noon - 2pm at Whitworth Park and we need a small group of 5-6 volunteers to help get the work done! We will be using wheelbarrows and shovels to move four tonnes of sand into place. We'll also do a big litterpick of the children's play areas to make them clean and safe for the kids to use.
Desirable skills and qualifications:
You don’t need any skills or qualifications to take part in this volunteering opportunity, just lots of enthusiasm. The sand is quite heavy but if you are unable to lift and carry heavy things we will find an alternative job for you.
Benefits:
This Volunteer Day gives you the chance to volunteer with other students and work in a team, helping to make a massive difference to our local community and helping us to create an amazing place for children to play. And we’ll provide refreshments at the end!
Toilets will be available at Whitworth Art Gallery.
Meeting Point - meet us at 12noon in front of Whitworth Art Gallery, Oxford Rd, Manchester, M15 6ER.
How to prepare:
• Please bring some water and any food you might want. Some drinks and snacks will be provided.
• Please wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear. Make sure you wear layers you can remove as we will get warm while moving the sand. Please don't wear your favourite white trainers as they may get dirty! I can provide wellington boots, plus hoodies and waterproofs for anyone who doesn't have them.
Please direct any questions to frances.muscatelli@manchester.ac.uk. We hope to see you there.
