Organisation Details

Friends of Platt Fields Park

Sub theme: Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Heritage
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: The Friends of Platt Fields exists to promote Platt fields park. We work to support the City Council in maintaining and making improvements to the park environment, so that it is better used and enjoyed by local people.

We are a small committee voted for and run by members and local volunteers. We simply give as much time and energy as we can. We believe local people should have a say in how the park is run, and we raise money for projects and improvements that we think are necessary or beneficial. Currently our main project is restoring the Shakespearean Garden in the Park but we are also looking into how the Lake environment can be improved.

We have opportinities to help on the commitee, but if you just want to do some volunteer gardening we have a session every Thursday morning in the Shakespeare Garden which lies off the footpath between Wilmslow Road and the Lake. We also run litter picking sessions usually first Tuesday of the month, (additional sessions may be added) 11.00 - 1.00 p.m., meeting at the Lakeside Centre.
Description of role: The Great British Spring Clean is the biggest mass-action environmental campaign in Britain and runs from 13-26th March 2026. In Manchester the campaign is being kicked off this year in Platt Fields Park on Monday 16th March. Join some of our regular litter pickers and make a real difference on that day. ( details of the national campaign can be found here: https://www.keepbritaintidy.org/our-work/eliminating-litter/great-british-spring-clean .

This is a good opportunity to help protect and preserve a vital green space, meet new people and connect with your community.
