Description of role: 📚 Medlock Primary School is looking for University of Manchester students to help celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 5th March! 📚
We are seeking student volunteers to deliver a short, engaging talk introducing primary school pupils to World Book Day and the joy of reading. Whether you have a favourite childhood book, love reading now, or simply want to inspire young learners, this is a wonderful opportunity to spark imagination and creativity.
You are welcome to share:
📖 Your favourite book (past or present) and why you love it
✨ A short reading from a children’s book
🌍 How stories connect people across cultures and experiences
🎭 Why reading is important to you, or how it has shaped your journey
💡 Any other ideas you have - you can be as creative as you want!
Why get involved?
This is a fantastic opportunity to:
• Develop public speaking and communication skills
• Gain experience engaging with young people
• Support a key celebration in the primary school calendar
You can present individually or as part of a small group of 2–3 students. If applying as a group, please indicate this in your application.
Your total volunteering commitment is expected to be 5 hours, including both preparation and delivery time.
The sessions will take place on Thursday 5th March during the school day, exact timings will be decided closer to the time.
