Organisation Description: New project - Manchester Care Leavers Collective. This is a group of young care leavers that will be coproducing a new project to support care leavers. We are looking for students with interests and skills in storytelling, writing and editing. We are looking into ways of using storytelling as a monitoring and evaluation method. Also as a way for the young adults in our group to share with Manchester City Council their experiences and a way to create positive change for care leavers and services. We are hoping to use a method of collecting, transcribing and editing stories of participants journey in the project.

Summery of the project.
Young people leaving care experience some of the worst health and life inequalities in England and living in care remains a significant determinant throughout their lives. This programme puts care leavers at the centre for improved health and life outcomes. The programme will pilot and coproduce a leaving care programme to improved outcomes for care leavers by improving confidence, skills, access to existing services and influencing and improving care leaving practice, policy and decisions.

Community Power
Many people feel that they don’t have control over the decisions and actions that affect their lives and the places they live in. This is a health issue, because a lack of control causes stress. So, if you don’t feel you have choices or influence in life, this can knock your self-confidence, motivation and self-esteem. This is increased if you live in an area experiencing deprivation or face additional disadvantage as likely to find it more difficult to influence the decisions that affect you. And this can be even more important if people don’t feel they have a lot of power individually.
Having more power over the things that matter to us benefits both our physical and mental health. Therefore, having more control and power over your life can improve health and life outcomes, with like-minded people coming together to make and influence change.
Care Leavers face additional challenges and experience disempowerment from services, practice and policy.

This is a exciting project and would suit anyone who is interested in Community power, creative evaluation, writing, editing stories, storytelling, young people and care experienced young people.
