Organisation Description: We are an inclusive, member-led charity for individuals with Down’s syndrome, parents, caregivers, and professionals, from diagnosis through to adulthood
Description of role: Down's Syndrome Manchester is a member led charity supporting individuals with Down's Syndrome and their families. We are on the look out for some social event volunteers to help us to run our monthly programme of events for our members.
We currently have 4 different age groups of events that we run, preschool, 5-9 years, 10-16 years and over 17's. From the 10-16's group up, we encourage parents/carers to drop the member off at our events as this encourages independence.
These are the groups that we require volunteers for.
Our social events take place usually in the evening or at the weekend. These are held at various venues throughout Manchester. Our members enjoy bowling, karaoke, miniature golf and various other group activities.
This role involves
• Creating a Welcoming Atmosphere – Greeting members as they arrive, helping them feel comfortable and included, being a friendly face that they can approach if they need anything.
• Facilitating Activities - Leading or supporting the group activity. Depending on the event's focus, you might be leading or assisting with activities like games, arts and crafts, dancing, or sports.
• One to One Support - Some members may need extra help with understanding instructions or may benefit from more personalised support during the activities. Other members may require emotional support, your role would be to make them feel safe and understood.
• Promote Socialisation - Encourage interaction but helping members interact with each other, especially if they are shy or uncertain about initiating.

All applications will require an informal interview with the Programme Manager, an enhanced DBS check and completion of online Safeguarding training.
