Helios x Victoria Baths Event Volunteer

Organisation Details

Victoria Baths

Sub theme: Culture, Heritage, Museums
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: Victoria Baths is a Grade II* swimming and bathing complex, opened in 1906, with three pools, a Turkish Baths suite, and facilities for bathing and laundry. The Baths served the local community for 87 years before closing in 1993 (30 years this year!) Originally described as “A water palace for every citizen of Manchester to be proud of”, the Baths is a beautiful space packed with ornate details and features such as tiles, stained glass and mosaics.

Today VB is a much-loved heritage site, and multi-event venue. Our pools no longer ripple with water but they’re still full of activities and experiences, from weddings to raves, and loads more in between!

We depend upon our fantastic team of volunteers. Thanks to their enthusiasm and generosity, we are able to keep this iconic building open to the public, and to ensure its future. In 2019, we won the prestigious Queens Award for Volunteering.

We have a range of exciting events throughout the year, and there are lots of different ways to get involved. With public-facing roles, admin support, behind the scenes help and more, there are lots of skills, opportunities and fun to be had at the Baths!
Description of role: Internationally acclaimed artist Luke Jerram brings his monumental solar installation Helios to Victoria Baths, transforming one of Manchester’s most iconic landmarks into a radiant fusion of art, science and wonder and we need your help to make it happen!

Presented from 17 March to 6 April 2026, the installation will fill the Gala Pool with light, sound and reflection, offering visitors a mesmerising encounter with the Sun brought down to Earth.

As a volunteer at the Helios x Victoria Baths event you will help us keep the event running smoothly on the front desk, stewarding and in our shop. This is a great opportunity to see the exhibition up close and personal, help us fundraise for our beautiful building and get some cultural event experience. You will be working along side our wonderful group of existing volunteers, staff and new volunteers alike – a perfect way to make new connections and experience a different side to one of Manchester’s most beautiful buildings.

You don’t need any previous event experience, we just need people who are happy talking with visitors, happy to adapt to different roles and are able to commit to the shift they are assigned! Everything else you will learn in your induction.

I will release the shifts after your induction so you can sign onto as many or as few as would suit you! These will be short shifts in the evenings from 5pm onwards and from 12pm onwards on the weekends.

I will be running inductions in the new year to introduce the building, the exhibition and our ethos to all new volunteers so you feel at ease when you come in for your shift/s. Once you have expressed your interest I will be in touch to book this in with you after the Christmas break.

If you have any questions about this role please sign up and I will contact you in the new year!
