Organisation Description: Age UK Trafford is an independent local charity. We've been working in the local community to help older people for 50 years. We have 25 dedicated staff and over 50 volunteers helping us to deliver services and activities for older people in Trafford.
Description of role: As a volunteer Music Champion at our Monday morning Music Café in Altrincham United Reformed Church, you'll play a vital role in supporting people living with dementia and their carers through the joy of music.
Your tasks will include:
Greeting and chatting with attendees, making them feel welcome
Encouraging participation in simple musical activities (clapping, percussion instruments)
Supporting the Music Therapist and other volunteers during the session
No music experience is required! We’re looking for people who are:
- Friendly and warm
- Patient and good listeners
- Comfortable engaging with older people and those living with dementia
- Reliable and happy to work as part of a team
We’ll provide:
- Full training from Manchester Camerata’s “Music in Mind” team
- Ongoing support from Age UK staff
- A certificate of completion
- A genuinely uplifting experience that fits beautifully on your CV or university volunteering record
Travelling from the University of Manchester?
Option 1: Bus & Metrolink combo
Catch the 147 or 143 bus from the Oxford Road campus area to St. Peter’s Square
From there, take the Altrincham-bound Metrolink tram straight to Altrincham Interchange (around 25 minutes)
The church is just a 7-minute walk from the tram stop
Option 2: Direct bus
Hop on the Bus 263 from the university or city centre (runs frequently)
It goes straight to Altrincham Interchange (takes about 55–60 minutes)
