Organisation Description: The Access Project is an education charity supporting young people from under-resourced backgrounds across London, the Midlands, Yorkshire and the North West. The programme provides GCSE students with expert mentorship and personalised academic tuition delivered by our team of volunteer tutors.
Today, young people in the UK from disadvantaged backgrounds are almost three times less likely to progress to a top-third university, compared to their peers working at a similar academic level. We want to change this. We help these young people to see university as something that is “for them”, to support them to make competitive applications and to get the grades they deserve so that they can fulfil their potential.

Description of role: Graduating this summer? Kick-start your career by volunteering as a tutor with The Access Project, helping an under-resourced young person beat the odds and get into a top university.
At The Access Project, we work with schools across the UK who share our belief that students with high potential should have equitable access to higher education, regardless of their background.
Our tutors are central to driving this change, empowering students to reach their full potential. By tutoring online for just one hour a week, you’ll have the opportunity to:
• Inspire your student through providing one-to-one academic support in a GCSE subject of your choice 📖
• Develop highly transferable skills through helping others thrive, boosting your professional prospects📈
• Gain valuable hands-on experience in the charity and education sectors, helping to shape your career path💡
• Contribute to our wider mission to improve social mobility through widening access to higher education 🏫
• Join a dynamic community of passionate, like-minded volunteers 🌍
All tutoring sessions take place online, allowing you to volunteer from anywhere in the UK at a time that works with your schedule.
Never tutored before? No problem! Whether you’re a first-time tutor or have some experience, we’ll provide all the support you need to succeed. Over the summer, you’ll join us for comprehensive online training, as well as gaining a CPD-accredited safeguarding qualification and an enhanced DBS certificate – all at no cost to you.
We work in collaboration with leading graduate employers across a wide range of sectors, including Bain and Company, KPMG, Deloitte, Rothschild & Co, the Civil Service, Slaughter and May, and more. If you’re looking to strengthen your CV, volunteering is a great way to demonstrate shared values and your commitment to personal growth.
Ready to inspire the next generation? Register now at www.theaccessproject.org.uk/apply to guarantee your place on our 2025/26 programme. Don't miss this opportunity to shape a young person’s future!
