Organisation Description: Manchester Museum is a museum displaying works of archaeology, anthropology and natural history and is owned by the University of Manchester, in England. Sited on Oxford Road at the heart of the university's group of neo-Gothic buildings, it provides access to about 4.5 million items from every continent.
Description of role: Immerse yourself in the energy, richness, and vibrancy of African culture as Manchester Museum celebrates Africa Day! This annual event marks the founding of the Organization of African Unity (now the African Union) on 25 May 1963.
We’re looking for volunteers to support a weekend full of live drumming, dance, music, food, workshops, and more. Events run from Saturday, 24 May, through the May half-term. Get involved in this inspiring celebration and help bring the museum to life!
We especially welcome applications from people of African heritage or those with a strong interest in African culture, history, and community. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet others, get involved with our work at Manchester Museum and join our wider volunteer programme.
Manchester Museum holds cultural heritage and natural history items from countries across Africa. Beyond Africa Day, we’re looking to collaborate with members of the African community across Manchester and beyond.
