Organisation Description: Street Paws aims to empower homeless people to keep their pet by their side.
Working across Greater Manchester and the North East, we partner with temporary housing providers to become pet friendly. Our Dog Champion Scheme provides training, support, and veterinary care to ensure that unhoused individuals can be welcomed with their dogs, preserving the precious bond they share and improving the community and wellbeing of all residents through the power of pet therapy.

Description of role: The Dog Champion Scheme supports homeless accommodation providers such as hostels and refuges to become pet friendly via training, support and access to free veterinary care. Upon securing safe housing for the individual and their pet, we utilise the rapport built to assist them in learning dog behavioural training, pet first aid and creating pet CVs to enhance their chances of finding permanent stable housing.
Our volunteers work alongside our Dog Champion Scheme hostels, temporary accommodation providers and homeless daycentres, as well as supporting at fundraising events.
The volunteer will be required to:
• Visit our Dog Champion Scheme partners once a month to build a positive relationship with the staff and homeless individuals and their pets.
• Identify any concerns raised regarding pets such as those needing veterinary treatment or any worries regarding care or behaviour and reporting this back to Street Paws to action.
• Make sure all the pets are registered with Street Paws and help fill in the relevant paperwork if not.
• Give out any pet supplies as need, such as coats, bedding, harnesses, leads, treats and toys
• Help homeless pet owners to create Pet CV’s for moving onto more stable accommodation.
• Contribute to our social media and fundraising
