Description of role: The Mildmay Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS) is part of the Mildmay Uganda Group (MUg), a faith-based non-governmental organization founded in 1998 as a Centre of Excellence specializing in comprehensive HIV and AIDS care, training, education, and research. Over time, MUg has expanded its scope to provide integrated health services, operate a higher learning institution (MIHS), and run the Mildmay Uganda Hospital (MUgH). In addition, MUg offers technical assistance programs both within Uganda and internationally.
MIHS offers an enriching volunteer program that targets professionals from around the world to contribute their expertise to various projects over a set period. Volunteers collaborate with staff across entities/departments such as the hospital, education research, and administration (including procurement, HR, and ICT), working on multidisciplinary projects. This program provides a well-rounded, immersive experience where volunteers work together to develop innovative solutions to challenges faced by vulnerable communities, under close support and supervision.
Based on volunteers' professional backgrounds, duration, and interests, MIHS assigns them to urban and rural centers where they can contribute to our services. We also collaborate with key partners, including the Ministry of Health, Mulago National Referral, Butabika National Referral for mental health, Mwanamugimu Nutritional Unit, district health facilities, and Kampala Capital City Authority, to enhance our volunteer program and deliver health and social services. At these sites, experts in various fields mentor the professionals volunteering in their respective departments.
Volunteer Programmes at Mildmay Uganda are in the following fields: Medical Services, Teaching/Learning, Social Work, Business & Logistics and Research. Please email ivan.mugumya@mihs.ac.ug to get more information.

To facilitate accommodation booking, volunteers are requested to provide at least four months' advance notice.

Mildmay Uganda also has an on-site canteen offering a variety of affordable food options, and there are other restaurants in the neighbourhood, providing diverse and reasonably priced meals.
