6R and Biodiversity eco-champions
Organisation Details

University of Manchester -School of Biological Sciences- 6R
Sub theme: Education
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: The 6R protocol is an approach to reduce plastics in labs, on campus and at home
Description of role: Make a Difference by championing eco-actions to reduce plastic use with 6R or increase engagement with urban Biodiversity.
Our champions can do many things to help and they will decide on their commitment. The F2F campaigning will be delivered at agreed times but other actions can be done in their own time.
6R is a guide designed by staff and students at the University of Manchester to manage plastics more sustainably in laboratories, at home and on campus.
Here are some examples of what our 6R volunteers may do:
- F2F campaigning on campus, in community, or in schools
- personal 6R action aiming to influence others with a measure of impact
- research to improve the 6R guide
- analysis of surveys to identify practical issues/barriers faced by students to manage plastic or ideas for campaigning
- working on solving the issues/barriers/campaign ideas identified in surveys
- writing a blog for the FBMH Environmental Sustainability Good Newsletter on great advancements that could save the planet (plastics and others).
Our Biodiversity champions run campaigns to engage with Biodiversity via campus tours and bioblitz with i-Naturalist. They can also run workshops to help nature with recycled material: e.g. make a bird feeder, insect puddler, seed bombs.
