Organisation Description: One World Together C.I.C. is pioneering an innovative approach to the traditional charitable funding system. We recognise that global development models and traditional funding models do not work. These models often follow a top-down approach to funding allocations, prioritising donor interests and providing short-term, project-based funding. So, our co-founders, Nicola Banks and Chibwe Henry, came up with an innovative solution: a two-step, transparent model that provides unrestricted funds to organisations, not projects.
Firstly, we have our solution to the problem mentioned above – our Solidarity Fund. Here, our members sign up for an affordable monthly donation from as little as £1.25/month. We pool these micro-donations to co-invest into our four Community Partners, giving them every penny to spend how they want and when they want. Why? Because we trust that local organisations are the ones best-placed to respond to challenges, to design and implement solutions in their communities. Our partners in Kenya, the UK and Zambia are already using these funds to respond to crises, deepen their impact, and invest in new community priorities. Our 2024 Annual Report will give you a glimpse into how powerful this model is!
Secondly, our membership–based model supports our overhead and operational costs. This strand fuels our movement enabling us to continue to support our Community Partners, engaging with our Youth Change-makers (such as the SEED Change-makers), catalysing our Change-makers Pathway Curriculum, and ensuring our financial sustainability. Our members sign up to an annual membership from as little as £5/year. To amplify engagement with our movement, our change-makers have the opportunity to build strong relationships within our network through our Community Space, a digital knowledge-sharing platform.
