Organisation Details

The Widows Empowerment Trust
Sub theme: Disability, Health and Wellbeing, Mental Health, Older people
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: Supporting widows and widowers who are socially excluded due to their bereavement.
Description of role: The Widows Empowerment Trust’s mission against loneliness needs your help!
Widows are at a significantly increased risk of developing negative health effects following a bereavement, including a higher risk of stroke, cardiovascular disease and early mortality. To combat this, The Widows Empowerment Trust offers befriending services, wellbeing workshops and a range of projects to support people living in Manchester who have experienced a significant loss. Majority of our service users are over the age of 50 which can exacerbate the detrimental effect that grief can have on physical and emotional wellbeing. Many experiencing bereavement can lose a sense of community and the motivation to invest in their health.
We need your help making fitness fun again by providing monthly 1 hour dance classes at our weekly wellbeing workshop!
Requirements:
• Previous dance experience
• Previous experience teaching to a large group (preferred not mandatory)
Roles & Responsibilities:
• Independently plan and deliver 1-hour monthly dance classes at our wellbeing workshop
• Have a general awareness of and accommodate around any motor limitations older adults may have
• Responsibly selecting music and exercises appropriate for an older adult demographic
• Consistent work ethic, reliability and punctuality
• Strong communication & teamwork skills
• Empathy and a positive attitude
As a dance instructor, you will be asked to maintain a consistent schedule and reliably attend our workshops once a month. These sessions will be for a fixed duration over approximately 5 months.
If you choose to volunteer, you will be critical to restoring a sense of community to bereaved individuals by bringing our service-users together to improve their health and wellbeing.
