Festive Winter Fair Volunteers

Organisation Details

Victoria Baths
Sub theme: Culture, Health and Wellbeing, Heritage, Museums
Organisation Description: Victoria Baths is a Grade II* swimming and bathing complex, opened in 1906, with three pools, a Turkish Baths suite, and facilities for bathing and laundry. The Baths served the local community for 87 years before closing in 1993 (30 years this year!) Originally described as “A water palace for every citizen of Manchester to be proud of”, the Baths is a beautiful space packed with ornate details and features such as tiles, stained glass and mosaics.
Today VB is a much-loved heritage site, and multi-event venue. Our pools no longer ripple with water but they’re still full of activities and experiences, from weddings to raves, and loads more in between!
We depend upon our fantastic team of volunteers. Thanks to their enthusiasm and generosity, we are able to keep this iconic building open to the public, and to ensure its future. In 2019, we won the prestigious Queens Award for Volunteering.
We have a range of exciting events throughout the year, and there are lots of different ways to get involved. With public-facing roles, admin support, behind the scenes help and more, there are lots of skills, opportunities and fun to be had at the Baths!

Description of role: We're looking for some additional support for our annual Festive Winter Fair - a Christmassy-themed market taking place across the Victoria Baths site.
We're looking for help with the following:
- Welcoming people to the event and asking people to sign up for Gift Aid
(which helps us earn additional donations from the Government!)
- Supporting our Tea Room volunteers in welcoming guests, serving customers, clearing tables, washing up etc.
- Helping visitors by answering event and building questions/ queries and letting people know where facilities like the tea room and toilets can be found
The event takes place on SUNDAY 1 DECEMBER
Volunteering will take place from 10am - 5pm (with breaks)
(The public event takes place from 11am - 4pm)
This opportunity can be very popular - so places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
All volunteers will be supported by our Engagement Manager - Ella Walker, and other VB Staff.
On arrival, you will be briefed by Ella, and introduced to other members of the team.
Things to know in advance...
1. The building can be very cold at this time of year and most spaces are unheated - you will need to have warm layers and make sure you are wearing warm and comfortable shoes.
2. There will be a range of sandwiches, snacks, and hot drinks in the break area - but for any dietary requirements and specific food needs please do bring your own lunches / snacks.
3. We will send a briefing in advance to give you more info about the event and what you'll be doing.
4. We will make sure you have a lunch and time to look at stalls at the event at some point in the day.
5. Please arrive between 9.45am - 10am - if you arrive earlier or later we may not be able to let you in until the event has started as we have to close the doors and are not able to check them again until we open.
For any further information please email ella@victoriabaths.org.uk
