Description of role: 'Helping Infants & Parents to Protect their Oral Health' (HIPPOH) is a student-led project run by the Manchester Paediatric Dentistry Student Society (MPDSS), under the Student Action branch of the SU.

We aim to educate expectant parents about the changes in oral health that may occur during pregnancy, as well as how to deal with these problems and the importance of doing so. We also hope to educate expectant parents about how to care for their infants' oral health when they are born, and offer advice such as when they should first take their child to the dentist and how they can reduce the risk of dental decay.

Volunteers will be trained to deliver interactive sessions in antenatal centres across Greater Manchester to ensure that expectant parents are aware of the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene throughout pregnancy and passing on positive dental habits to their children.
Through our work, we hope to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health and contribute towards decreasing the high rates of dental decay in children across Greater Manchester.

Your role involves delivering talks about mothers' & infants' oral health to groups of expectant parents in antenatal classes.
You will receive appropriate training and information regarding the project and the sessions, which will all be delivered to you by the MPDSS committee.

Transport will be provided. However, having a car is really helpful, and petrol money can be reimbursed.
You will need a DBS check which has been verified by the SU. You will also need to complete safeguarding training, which we will provide the link to.
