Description of role: English Development – Sri Lanka
Volunteer in Sri Lanka and make a meaningful impact by joining our English Development team! Support neighbourhood schools and community initiatives while embarking on a unique adventure with volunteers from around the globe.
The English Development programme works closely with Sri Lankan schools to develop long-lasting projects that, through teaching and classroom renovations, offer children in the neighbourhood better futures. This programme provides volunteers with a global perspective and insights into various educational environments.
The English Development programme enhances the existing English curriculum in Sri Lankan schools. With authorization from the Sri Lankan government, Travelteer operates in schools throughout the southern and northeastern regions. Our efforts cover a range of ages from preschool to high school, involving children from 3 to 17 years old through classroom teaching, after-school programs, and facility renovations.
Although Sri Lanka has one of the highest literacy rates in South Asia, rural communities frequently suffer from underfunding and inadequate facilities. Proficiency in English is crucial as it supports tourism and remittances, which are significant sources of income. While many rural students can understand and use basic English words, their conversational and comprehension skills require further development.
