Audio Music Workshop Volunteer (AAA 24-25)

Organisation Details

Audio

Sub theme: Children, Education, Youth Work and Young People
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Description of role: Audio is a project that aims to widen access to higher education for children from underrepresented backgrounds in Manchester by providing music theory workshops to primary school children (year 5). With the aim of inspiring children to pursue a passion for music, as well as introducing the idea of further education to them, we are looking for volunteers to participate in the workshops that will take place at different school locations, assisting the children with their learning.

Music theory knowledge is not essential as the sessions will be at a very basic level. With the aim of the sessions being a means of inspiration for the children, we are looking for people who have a passion for the arts and want to share this with younger people! As a workshop volunteer you will assist a small group of 5 or 6 children in the interactive activities that are set for the class including listening to music, composing music, and creating artwork. If you have a creative hobby, we would love to showcase the importance of the arts to the children – maybe you play an instrument, sing, DJ, create artwork, act, write music, create photography, create films, write poems, write stories or maybe you just have a passion for listening to music!

The Audio project is working with a local primary school, conducting six sessions in a single school over a period of 6 weeks. Volunteering sessions will take place at either 9am, 10am or 11am on Tuesday morning between Tuesday 5th November and Friday 20th December. The first session during the week of 30th October will take place online to accomodate to university scheduled reading week.

Alongside the actual workshops, as a volunteer you will be required to complete a DBS check as well as other training and planning for the sessions due to take place. This will be facilitated and paid for by the Student's Union and you have support of SU staff and project leaders during the DBS application process. If you have concerns about the volunteer commitment times/hours we would still love to hear from you as we can try our best to work around volunteer time availability.

Taking part in this project is a great opportunity for you make new friends who share similar interests to you! It will also give you opportunity to gain and solidify skills that can go on your CV as well as being part of an extremely rewarding experience of contributing to the ever so important creative development and inspiration for young children.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email the project leaders (Ellie and Erin) at Audioaaa.uom@gmail.com
