Organisation Description: SolidariTEE is an international, student-run charity which provides grants to NGOs in Greece who then provide asylum seekers, refugees and migrants with access to legal and psychological support. The support of a legal professional enables them to understand the asylum process and be informed of their obligations under it, and this preparation is crucial in ensuring fairer outcomes. The work of the NGOs is essential considering it is almost impossible to access a state funded lawyer in Greece. Because there is psychological evidence that traumatic memories are stored in different regions of the brain and the brain generally focusses more on the emotional aspect of the memory than the details, psychological support is also crucial in ensuring asylum seekers can recall their experiences in the way the process requires during their interviews. As volunteers, we raise fundraise to provide these grants through organising events and selling our sustainable, ethically produced tee shirts featuring artwork by asylum seekers. We also aim to raise awareness about issues affecting refugees globally, including the racism and islamophobia that underpins the experiences of many, and break false conceptions about refugees and the asylum process. We do this on our social media, and through hosting awareness events
Description of role: Most teams have one or two team leads, who are responsible for overseeing all of the year’s activities and building and supporting their team. Teams can be structured however you think works best for your uni or college. Some teams divide roles into events, t-shirts, and social media/ publicity, but we leave this up to you! For SolidariTee to work, because we have no paid staff and because we as young people do all of our fundraising ourselves, we do need teams to be active throughout the year. We ask that all teams commit to organising at least two fundraisers per term/semester, one awareness-raising event per term/semester and selling 100 t-shirts across the year, but what you choose to do is entirely your choice! Some teams organise sponsored runs, others organise t-shirt embroidery workshops, and many run stalls, bake sales and speaker events. You’ll have our full support and we all help each other out around deadlines and other commitments in and out of uni.
