Activity type: Community Work, Environment and Gardening
Sub theme: Culture, Education, Health and Wellbeing, Mental Health, Science and Technology
Stellify Award: This opportunity is part of 'Make a Difference'
Organisation Description: Join UoM’s Food, Climate, and Community Initiative
Student Action - Environmental Projects
Description of role: Join us at Fallowfield's much-loved Firs Botanical Grounds and Environmental Research Institute, where we are seeking to create a flourishing and efficient food system to help communities in need. After last year's successes, we are hoping to scale-up the seeding, growing and distribution of fresh produce which will help provide for local homeless shelters and Oldham's Vegbox scheme for families on low incomes. Volunteers will gain knowledge from seasoned gardeners in horticulture, DIY, environmental research, hydroponics systems, community gardens and much more.

• Purpose: Develop knowledge in food systems to meet community needs by growing fresh, sustainable food and facilitating its distribution to those who need it most.

• Impact: Contribute to improving food access, addressing food insecurity, and developing practical skills in food systems.

Volunteering sessions will be held on a weekly basis on Wednesday afternoon, with the opportunity to volunteer outside of these sessions. Sign up here to get your Stellify hours!
