The Green Wellbeing Project

Organisation Details

University of Manchester Volunteering & Awards Team
Activity type: Environment and Gardening
Sub theme: Health and Wellbeing
Description of role: Starting Wednesday 2nd October, we will be running a weekly wellbeing-focused lunchtime gardening club at a garden in Fallowfield. This will happen every Wednesday until Christmas and then will start up again when semester 2 starts.
We will meet at the garden from 11:00 - 13:00 where we will volunteer in a small friendly group, learning how to grow things and look after the garden together. Jobs will be varied and will depend on group size and the weather. This project is all about trying some slow, happy, healthy gardening together - a chance to get some time away from any personal or university related stress.
There is no commitment required and you can drop in for as many or as few sessions as you would like. We aim to create a warm, laid back and welcoming environment for those who might need it, and there is no pressure to return every week. We will enjoying watching the garden and plants grow and develop with every session.
You don't need to bring anything with you, except a bottle for water. Please wear warm clothes and a coat, and shoes you don't mind getting a bit dirty.
If you feel like is a project that will benefit you or if you would like to know a bit more - feel free to contact Amelia (amelia.hart@manchester.ac.uk). I can email, meet for a chat or have a phone call before you come along if that would be helpful for you.
Please note, this project is not supposed to be for everyone - it's designed for students who might need a bit of extra support or who are looking for ways to improve their wellbeing. If you're not sure if that's you, you are welcome to get in touch for a chat.
