Description of role: RSPB Greater Manchester Swift Champion - University Ambassador
Are you passionate about wildlife and conservation? Do you know Swifts are in danger of extinction? Are you keen to share different ways to save Swifts?
We are looking for volunteers to be University Ambassadors interested in supporting the Greater Manchester Swift Champion Project (GM Swift Project). This project aims to find out how Swifts are faring and target conservation efforts, ensure all developments are built with Swifts in mind, and engage with diverse communities about Swifts (Community Engagement). We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic individuals to take on the role of RSPB Greater Manchester Swift Champion – University Ambassadors who will help to involve university students with the Community Engagement team of the project, working with student societies and other university organisations to form connections. Our GM Swift Project is keen to share their wealth of knowledge about community engagement strategies, conservation and Swifts, and learn from others.
What you will be doing:
• Becoming a volunteer of the GM Swift Project.
• Acting as an ambassador for the GM Swift Project at the university and liaising between the project team and the university.
• Having access to RSPB news and information which you will share within the university.
• Helping the Community Engagement team of the GM Swift Project, participating and arranging big events or communications. .
• Engage the diverse communities within the university to take part in the activities delivered by the project's community engagement team. This includes raising awareness of Swift conservation, arts and media, creative and persuasive writing, and sharing content about Swifts. We encourage you to use your talents and interests to attract others to the cause.
• Ensuring that someone can fill the role when you move on from university.
The skills you need:
• You don’t need to be a bird expert, but you should have an interest in nature and conservation.
• Have good communication skills and an ability to work with others.
• Be well organised and able to arrange events.
• Enthusiasm for helping the RSPB to reach new audiences.
What’s in it for you:

• Learning about nature from the experienced naturalists in our groups, finding out more about the work of the RSPB and gaining new skills.
• Training and support from the RSPB staff.
N.B. The RSPB GM Swift Champions meet online and in-person across various locations. Any travel or out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed.
