Conservation Research Volunteer
Organisation Details
SEED Madagascar
Activity type: Community Work, Environment and Gardening, International , Sports and Outdoor Activities
Description of role: Madagascar is one of the poorest yet most biodiverse countries on earth, with 83% of the island’s species being endemic. SEED Madagascar is an award-winning British registered charity, with a mission to build environmental and community resilience across South East Madagascar.
The SEED Conservation Research Programme (SCRP) has been operating for over 15 years from a permanent research camp in the beautiful coastal area of Sainte Luce.
SEED welcomes short-term volunteers to join our conservation team for 2-8 weeks and participate in our environmental conservation project, working with species only found in Madagascar.
As a volunteer with SEED, you will be going on daily surveys, one to three times a day, to look for herpetofauna (chameleons, frogs, geckos and snakes), bats, and 4 species of lemur endemic to Madagascar. The data you collect will help us to understand the importance of the littoral forest and surrounding habitats, to track the population trends of key species and help to shape our conservation efforts in the future.
Given our years of experience welcoming volunteers to our programme, we know what it takes to ensure volunteers have safe, rewarding, and fulfilling time.
