Description of role: *PLEASE NOTE - Volunteering is not available every day of the week - opportunities and time commitments will vary throughout the year. I have selected every week day because time commitments are yet to be confirmed.
Conservation volunteers at Dunham Massey support the ranger team with the delivery of practical conservation and habitat maintenance tasks across the park and estate. The role provides an opportunity to volunteer as part of a larger team and learn new skills in a relaxed and supportive environment.
By getting involved, you could…
• Develop a range of skills in practical conservation and habitat management.
• Become confident using a range of tools and equipment.
• Help maintain and enhance the SSSI habitats of Dunham Massey deer park and species rich wildlife corridors on Dunham wider estate.
• Learn more about Dunham Massey - its history, landscape, nature and archaeology, and share knowledge with like-minded people.
• Work alongside experienced countryside professionals.
• Enjoy spending time outdoors and exploring new places.
You’d also be joining Europe’s largest conservation charity and the wider National Trust team proudly looking after 780 miles of coastline, over 250,000 hectares of land, over 500 historic houses, castles, ancient monuments, gardens, parks and nature reserves (including lighthouses, villages, pubs and a gold mine!). We are a unique charity welcoming millions of people each year and with a vision to open up places for the benefit of everyone, for ever.
What’s involved?
• Supporting the Dunham Massey ranger team to carry out seasonal tasks such as tree pruning, invasive species removal and hedgerow maintenance.
• Undertake targeted conservation tasks such as such as tree planting and pond restoration.
• Volunteering at varied locations across Dunham Massey wider estate.
• Volunteering within a larger group of new and experienced volunteers, sharing knowledge and learning new skills together.
We want all our volunteers to feel welcome and to have an equally positive experience when volunteering with us. So, volunteers will:
• Be provided with the necessary induction, training, equipment and reasonable adjustments to do this role well and safely.
• Be offered expenses to cover agreed travel costs between home and place of volunteering.
• Have remote access to support, news and rotas via our volunteer website
This role will suit you if you are …
• Happy volunteering within a larger team environment.
• Comfortable with physical work outdoors in different weather conditions.
• Looking to develop new skills and gain new experiences.
• Thinking about a career in the outdoors.
• Happy to travel to various locations across Dunham Massey wider estate.
• Enthusiastic and keen to learn.
• Happy with a volunteering commitment that varies throughout the year.
All National Trust volunteers will be asked to
• Respect and uphold the National Trust values whilst volunteering with us.
• Complete training required of all NT volunteers and any role specific training.
• Adhere to relevant policies and processes including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
Extra Information
• Currently this group meets on a weekly or 2 weekly basis, however there is no set regularity, and volunteering opportunities vary throughout the year.
